Bono on belief and confusion

‘Belief and confusion are not mutually exclusive … I’m sure you question your atheism, just as I question faith. You have to pummel it to make sure that it can withstand it, to make sure you can trust it’. – Christian Scharen, One Step Closer: Why U2 Matters to Those Seeking God (Grand Rapids: Brazos Press, 2006), 117.

  1. Jason,

thanks for this quote. i’m a huge U2 kind of guy. in fact, i did a series of sermons about 2 years ago that were based on U2 songs and had some of their lyrics scattered throughout. of course, i did this secretly so as not to offend the cultured despisers in the congregation who might not understand why i wasn’t ‘preaching god’s word’ (if you take my meaning).

you should be ashamed of yourself, preaching bono’s words as god. people like you is why i don’t go to a physical church. your abuse and manipulation of your own people is indefensable, and you are a coward and an agent of evil. bono is just another celebrity devil worshipper.

  3. I think Bono is a positive force in the world. I like him very much. It annoys me that he receives such vicious criticism sometimes, it’s like some people just get jealous or something, who knows. I think that anybody who gets really good things done in this world is to be commended.

  4. Jerry,
I think you are missing the whole point of Church in the first place. It is a relationship, you and Christ, and Bono’s words can be just as important as the ones in the Bible. Each person in there wrote stuff about what God has taught them, this is just what Bono is doing himself.
