And here he is with Jan Garbarek & Manu Katche:

“The Interior Ministry said it suspected that the Nag Hamadi attack was in retaliation for the alleged November rape of a 12-year-old Muslim girl by a Christian man in the same town.” (as appearing in the online news article you linked in your post)
What most people don’t realize is that such an account of rape often means that a Christian man and a Muslim woman wanted to get married. Muslim women, however, cannot marry outside the faith and so the couple stages a kidnaping of sorts. To save their honour, the families will then often permit the marriage. Of course, it could be that this was indeed a case of rape, but this kind of story in the media is often more accurately described by the above. (I will refrain from sharing my source here for safety reasons).
I just wanted to say this because I am in Egypt and wanted to share a sense of the intricate and complex nuances of news like this. I do not mean to belittle what has happened; of course our brothers and sisters need our prayers as well as the Islamic community.

Also, if I might add, for your Middle Eastern news trust Al Jazeera over any others. They do quite a commendable job of news coverage most of the time. Their recent coverage on this evet can be found here: http://english.aljazeera.net/news/middleeast/2010/01/2010188752327844.html
