Des Bettany’s cartoons done as a Changi POW show ‘art therapy’ in action. By painting, it appears he was able to enter a different world as he painted pow’s who were generally healthy, pink skinned, well built, well shod and happy. Nothing could have been further from the truth but it allowed him to keep his sanity.
